In the Great Bear Rainforest, these offsets are created through ecosystem-based management, preserving trees that naturally store carbon by absorbing greenhouse gasses.

Approach
GBC's approach to carbon offsets is grounded in Indigenous stewardship and ecosystem-based management. Revenue from offset sales is strategically allocated to support stewardship, economic development, and governance within the Coastal First Nations.
A significant portion of the funds is dedicated to conservation initiatives, including stewardship offices across seven communities that monitor forest health and carbon storage. The project also supports the Coastal Guardian Watchmen programs, empowering Indigenous stewards to safeguard the ecological integrity of their traditional territories.
